About

I’m Ian Hawkins, an independent contractor, specialized in technical communication. I’m based in Canada, and Sundorne Communications Inc. is my company.

I have worked with and written about computers and information technology for over 30 years. Over that time, I’ve managed to learn a few things, often with the benefit of bitter experience.

  • It doesn’t matter what kind of work you do, you must find out what your audience needs. If you don’t match your product with what they need, you aren’t succeeding.
  • Ask questions. Listen to the answers. Keep working at it until you understand.
  • Respect other people’s time. Advance preparation shows that you value other people. Their work is important. Their time is important. Their ideas are important.
  • Be honest with people. Also be considerate.

And the technology part? I’ve worked with enough different kinds of technology over the years that I’m confident I can pick up any new skills quickly and efficiently. It’s always worked for me in the past.

I’m not currently looking for new contracts. That might explain why this website isn’t set up to promote any new opportunities. I haven’t optimized for search engines and I’m not pushing anything very hard.

However, if you have something interesting or exciting and you need an experienced writer to help, send me a note. I can send you more details about my skills and experience, and we can explore to see if there’s a good fit.
